1. Director

Prof. Yan Yu, MD, PhD, is the director of the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety of Global Health Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University. She serves as vice president of Chinese Nutrition Society-Geriatric Nutrition Branch and vice president and secretary general of Shaanxi Provincial Nutrition Society. She serves as several national expert panels and committees, including department of Specialist Formulated Food Registration, State Food and Drug Administration, the Chinese Mutagen Society, Shaanxi Food Safety Consultant. Her key research interests include nutrition and chronic disease prevention and control, tumor molecular epidemiology, food safety risk assessment, and nutrition epidemiology.


2. Mission and Goals

The center focuses on studying nutrition and chronic disease prevention and control, molecular nutrition and tumors and immunity, food safety risk assessment, gut bacterial and diseases, and functional plant chemicals. It will foster domestic and international collaboration across disciplines and institutions to establish an innovative, collaborative, global health research network. Based on cell and molecular biology, aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms and phytochemicals detection experimental platform, it aims to form a “cell – animal-human” systematic scientific research system, especially in tumor molecular epidemiology, gut flora and disease, nutrition and chronic disease prevention and control mechanisms studies. The center is dedicated to build a high-quality nutrition and food safety training platform in the Northwest of China.
