Hong Yan

Yan Hong,Vice President of XJTU,A member of the CPC Committee and the Standing Committee of XJTU. He is in charge of the Health Science Center, the affiliated hospitals, the affiliated medical school and School of International Education.


Major fields of scientific research

Prevention and control of birth defects, nutrition epidemiology, health management statistics


Education and Work experience

Born in November 1957, Professor Yan Hong, a doctoral supervisor, graduated from Department of Medicine of Xi’an Medical University in 1979. He acquired his master’s degree in medicine in 1986, he acquired his master’s degree in clinical epidemiology in Newcastle University of Australia in 1997 and his doctor’s degree in community medicine and clinical epidemiology from the University in 2009.

He was once designated as Vice Director of Precautionary Medicine Department at the former Xi'an Medical University, the Dean of the School of Public Health, the Dean of XJTU Health Science Center, and the Assistant to the President.


Achievements in academia and scientific research

As a leading researcher, he has been in charge of and engaged in more than 20 major research supported by The People's Republic of China ministry of science and technology, the Natural Science Foundation of China , the Ministry of Health, the UN Children’s Fund and the European Union. Among the research papers and reports published and submitted, more than 100 are listed in SCI.

His research findings concerning prevention of low-weight neonates, death of new-born babies and improvement of infants’ intelligence development earned him the First Class Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Shaanxi Province. In addition, he was also engaged in compiling 5 national planned textbooks as chief editor and vice chief editor.

He now holds concurrent posts at multiple state academic societies. For example, he is the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for Public Health and Preventive Medical Courses Teaching, the Chairman of Health Statistics Committee of Preventive Medicine Association, as well as being a member of the WHO Council for Public Health in Asia-Pacific region. His achievements have entitled him to special subsidies from the State Council.
