1. About the Xi’an Jiaotong University(XJTU)
XJTU (http://en.xjtu.edu.cn/index.htm) is a key university with more than 120 year history, which is directly administered by the Chinese Education Ministry and is one of the oldest current institutions of higher education in China. The predecessor of XJTU was Nanyang College, which was founded in 1896 in Shanghai and renamed Jiaotong University in 1921. In 1956, the main body of Jiaotong University was moved to Xi'an according to the decision issued by the State Council, and was formally named XJTU in 1959, which was listed as a national key university. XJTU, as one of the first universities entering the seventh and eighth five-plan, as well as China's "211 Project" and “985 Project”, is selected to be developed into a global first-class university. In April 2000, approved by the State Council, the original Xi'an Medical University and original Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics were integrated into XJTU.
2. About the Xi’an Jiaotong University Global Health Institute (XJTU-GHI)
The GHI (http://ghi.xjtu.edu.cn/) was established on September 18, 2016. It aims to help serve key national development strategies, including China’s National Innovation-driven Development Strategy, Western Development, “Healthy China 2030” and China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (http://english.gov.cn/beltAndRoad/).
With the joint efforts of the XJTU Health Science Center and other colleges across XJTU, the GHI will become a hub for global health-related research and training in western China, contributing to the XJTU’s goal as a world-class university and the “Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour” (iHarbour). The GHI is: 1) the first global health institute in western China, conducting interdisciplinary, cross-regional global health research; 2) the first established institute among XJTU’s 23 planned new institutes, locating in the iHarbour being developed, which will be completed in 2019; and 3) one of the six new research institutes of the Medical Section at the iHarbour. It is led by several internationally and nationally renowned scholars.
3. Open positions:
To achieve the goal of the Xi’an Jiaotong University Global Health Institute (XJTU-GHI), we sincerely welcome young talents to join us, multiple positions are opened, including:
1. Young TopNotch Talents: Including the National and University’s TopNotch Talents;
2. Academic Backbone: Associate professors ;
3. Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Including the Specially Funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Foreign Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
2. Requirements:
Candidates with various background and expertise related to global health research are encouraged to apply, in particular, those with expertise in public health (e.g., epidemiology, nutrition, biostatistics, health management and administration, health systems, health policy and economics, non-communicable chronic disease prevention and control, child and maternal health, and health disparities environmental health, health promotion, genetic epidemiology), medicine, big data science, information science, sociology, systems science, pharmacy, statistics, geography. Good communication skills in Chinese and English are desired. International training, research and work experiences are plus.
1) Young TopNotch Talents: Applicants should have an outstanding publication and funding record, ability and will to help build a nationally and internationally competitive research lab or center within the GHI.
2) Associate professors: Candidates should have a track-record of excellence in research and the potential to become a national leader in his/her field.
3) Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Candidates should have a track-record of outstanding training in a top program, have peer-reviewed publications in international journals, and have demonstrated potential to become a successful independent researcher.

Currently the university is a comprehensive research university with scientific focus. It is composed of 10 branches of learning, namely: science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, education and art. The university, currently, consists of 27 full-time colleges and schools, 9 schools for undergraduates and 19 affiliated teaching hospitals. XJTU boasts a high-level staff of 5,982, including 3,072 full-time teachers. XJTU has 35 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. XJTU has a current enrollment of 38,103 full-time students, including over 18,919 masters and doctoral candidates. The university offers 87 undergraduate majors. It consists of 28 disciplines and 154 sub-disciplines authorized to confer PhD degrees and 45 disciplines and 242 sub-disciplines authorized to confer Master Degrees, and 22 centers to confer professional degrees. The Center, formally known as the Xi’an Medical University (founded 80 years ago), is a leader in the fields of medical education, health research, and clinical services in west China. The GHI will foster domestic and international collaboration across disciplines and institutions, and provide the scientific evidence and solutions to major threats of public health in China and worldwide. It will focus on major global health problems, with main objectives of: training health professionals and researchers with global perspectives, providing educational and collaborative opportunities, and contributing to national and international development.
GHI currently is located in Xi'an Jiaotong University Health Science Center, but will be relocated to the “Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour” in 2020, which is being built.

Appendix 4: Introduction of Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour (iHarbour)
The iHarbour is the national project by Ministry of Education and Shannxi Government. It is a new and important platform established by Shaanxi Government and XJTU to carry out the innovation-driven, “one Belt One Road” and Western China Development strategy. With broader international vision and development efforts in XJTU can accelerate the establishment of “Double Top” universities, in the 21st century to explore new forms of university discipline, construction and new mode of personnel training.
The land mass will encompass about 2.92 square kilometers, to integrate four functions which include scientific research, education, incubation and comprehensive service to institute nature science, engineering science, medical science and social science as the four main faculties in 23 institutes. The innovation theme of “Campus, Park and Community”, is a combination of techniques and service-a fusion of technology and industry.
